The workshop “Poultry Meat Safety…from Slaughterhouses to Consumers” was held on 17 December 2016 with participation from stakeholders representing both small- and large-scale slaughterhouses. The program featured keynote presentations on food security in Thailand, farm and slaughterhouse standards, and laboratory findings on common foodborne pathogens in slaughtering production lines, followed by a collaborative brainstorming session.

Prof. Dr. Lertrak Srikitjakarn, together with the VPHCAP executive board, attended the 1st Joint International Conference of the Association of Institutions for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (AITVM) and the Society of Tropical Veterinary Medicine (STVM), organized by Freie Universität Berlin on 4–8 September 2016 in Berlin, Germany.

The OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) has designated Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development, in collaboration with the Veterinary Public Health Centre for Asia Pacific, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, as an OIE Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Service Capacity Building, with the aim of strengthening veterinary capacity at both national and international levels.

The workshop was honored by the participation of Prof. Dr. Dankmar Böhning from the University of Southampton and Asst. Prof. Winai Bodhisuwan from Kasetsart University as instructors.

Global Health Institute – Thailand 2016 (GHIT) provided One Health leadership training along with specialized short courses on key skills such as risk analysis and participatory epidemiology. The two-week program also featured a research conference that highlighted the latest scientific updates on emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety.
