The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lertrak Srikitjakarn, together with the VPHCAP executive board, attended the 1st Joint International Conference of the Association of Institutions for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (AITVM) and the Society of Tropical Veterinary Medicine (STVM), organized by Freie Universität Berlin on 4–8 September 2016 in Berlin, Germany.
The conference, entitled “Tropical Animal Diseases and Veterinary Public Health: Joining Forces to Meet Future Global Challenges,” focused on tropical veterinary medicine and animal production. It brought together experts in animal health and production, senior and junior researchers, and students to discuss solutions for improving human and animal health in tropical regions through enhanced research, training, and education. Key areas of emphasis included the control of animal and zoonotic diseases, food safety, genetic resources and biodiversity, sustainable rural development and animal production, capacity building, and animal welfare.
The event also provided an opportunity for MVPH alumni to reconnect with their instructors, share experiences from their current careers and lives, and strengthen professional networks. We were delighted to see the alumni thriving in their respective fields and look forward to future reunions.
