A one-day workshop on “Application of Rapid Methods in Food Processing” was organized by VPHCAP, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Japan, on 22 September 2016 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University.

Foodborne diseases pose a major public health challenge worldwide, with most cases caused by pathogenic bacteria and some by viruses. To address this, countries have developed food quality assurance and monitoring systems based on food safety standards (GMP/HACCP) and the requirements of international trade. A critical component of food safety and quality control is microbiological analysis at key control points along the food chain. However, conventional culture methods are often time- and labor-intensive and may not align with business needs that demand rapid and reliable results. Advances in technological innovation have led to the development of alternative rapid methods that can be applied alongside conventional standards, providing faster, labor-saving, yet accurate and consistent outcomes.

We were honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Hisao Kurazono and Asst. Prof. Dr. Kayo Okumura from Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Duangporn Pichpol from Chiang Mai University, as workshop instructors. More than 20 participants, including students from the 7th cohort of the MVPH program, attended the workshop.
