The Veterinary Public Health Centre for Asia Pacific, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with the Excellent Center of Veterinary Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, CMU, organized the workshop “The Use of Capture-Recapture Method for Biology and Health Study” from 25–29 July 2016 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University. The workshop was honored by the participation of Prof. Dr. Dankmar Böhning from the University of Southampton and Asst. Prof. Winai Bodhisuwan from Kasetsart University as instructors.
The capture-recapture methodology is widely applied in both animal and human population studies to estimate demographic parameters, determine population size, and assess the completeness of incidence or prevalence of diseases. It is also an effective tool for estimating populations that are difficult to identify. Importantly, the method is cost-effective and suitable for organizations with limited resources.
During the workshop, participants explored various capture-recapture models, including closed capture-recapture, open capture-recapture, and spatial capture-recapture approaches, and discussed their applications in biological and health research.
