Global Health Institute - Thailand 2018 & The 5th Food Safety and Zoonoses Symposium for Asia Pacific
2-13 July 2018

The GHI – Thailand has been conducted continually by VPHCAP in collaborate with our various academic partners for over 6 years since 2012. With integrative OneHealth concerning, the program strengthened relevant technical skills and identify opportunities for fostering collective action for the benefit of public health, food security and ecosystem health. By the interdisciplinary health education, the GHI benefited number of participants from all over Asia and global to explore the leadership context as a part of the solution to help protect and save numbers of lives in our present and future generations.in our present and future generations.

The GHIT-2018 was held on 2-13 July 2018 with the special combination of the 5th Food Safety and Zoonoses Symposium for Asia Pacific and DAAD Club Meeting for the MVPH alumni. The event composed of 1 pre-conference course in the first week and 3 post-conference courses in the second week.

There were 137 participants from 15 countries around the world attended the workshops.

We conducted 4 short training courses;

  2. Application of Molecular Epidemiology
  3. Risk Analysis in Practice to Improve Food System
  4. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Analysis

The 5th Food Safety and Zoonoses Symposium for Asia Pacific
Knowledge and Skills for Addressing Emerging Infectious Disease at Convergence of Animal, Human and Environmental Health

The symposium was held in between the GHI short training course during 6-7 July 2018. The main objective of the symposium was to strengthen international academic, research and operating collaboration for transferring knowledge, experiences, and taking appropriate action on food safety and zoonoses in the Asia Pacific region. We provide opportunities for young and expert researchers to share their research knowledge in various interesting themes; such as emerging and re-emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, application of risk analysis, epidemiological tools and application, and food safety and hygiene.

There are 108 participants who are young to mid-level university lecturer profession or a master or doctoral-level student from 14 countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, United State, and Vietnam. The DAAD Alumni Club Meeting is also included in this event.

DAAD Alumni Reunion - Meeting and Networking Activity through VPHAAP

The Veterinary Public Health Association for Asia Pacific (VPHAAP) has been established since 2010 and registered legally in Nepal in 2011. This club works as network of former DAAD alumni, MVPH alumni, German Professors, Thai Professors and researchers around the globe for the effective generation and dissemination of knowledge in Veterinary Public Health. The DAAD Alumni Meeting was held on the 7th July 2018 after the symposium. The ultimate goal of this club is to link people who devoted to work in the field of Veterinary Public Health from the region of Asia Pacific to global. The area of interest among this group, including organizing events of public health interest, generating and disseminating knowledge for the prevention and control of emerging and re‐emerging infectious diseases zoonoses and food safety in their respective countries. We have more than 80 members at present.

Meeting Minute: Communication and Networking among Members Future Direction

After 8 years of establishment, communication across countries and culture has been challenging. VPHCAP as a Master program coordinating office, has been initiate the way of communi-cation, including email, Facebook, website. In addition, VPHCAP launch the e‐newsletters named “V*COMMUNiTY” for 8 issues during last 4 years. All communications aim to keep all alumni and member of VPHCAP in touch, sharing news and activities from the center. There are 2 major points were discussed during the meeting; The preference for communication platform are different in each countries. Most of the member is really active via Facebook, but some of them has limited access to this application. Several platforms have been brainstorming and discussed for the most preference. The group agrees that official communication via email is the most preference and common way to communi-cate among the group. Focal point from each countries will play a big role for data sharing point. He/she should help updating email, position, affiliation of members in each countries at least every year.
