On 25–26 December 2024, the Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety Centre for Asia Pacific (VPHCAP) and the WOAH Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Service Capacity Building at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with The Ohio State University, USA, organized a workshop titled “Epidemiological Models for Animal and Human Diseases.”
We were honored to welcome two distinguished speakers:
-
Prof. Dr. Rebecca B. Garabed, College of Public Health, The Ohio State University, USA
-
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veerasak Punyapornwithaya, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Thailand

Both experts shared their knowledge and experience in epidemiology and modeling tools that are vital for understanding, predicting, and managing diseases at the animal–human interface.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding and application of epidemiological models to address challenges in disease surveillance, prevention, and control for both animals and humans. It also provided a platform to strengthen international collaboration in the field of veterinary public health.
