From 4–12 April 2022, the Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety Centre for Asia Pacific (VPHCAP), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, organized a training workshop titled “Strengthening of Veterinary Service Capacity to Assure the Quality System in Food Safety”. The program was designed for students in the Master of Science in Veterinary Public Health (International Program) and featured a blend of classroom lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, and field excursions.
We were honored to welcome Dr. Tongkorn Meeyam, Lecturer in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Public Health, CMU, who introduced students to the veterinary role in slaughterhouses, surveillance of food safety, animal welfare, quality control, waste management, and sample collection.

5 April 2022 – Students visited the Laboratory Animal Center, Chiang Mai University, where they learned about quality control and standards for laboratory animal care and use. We were honored to have Dr. Thattawan Kaewsakhorn, Deputy Director of the Office of Research Administration, as guest speaker to share his expertise and experience.

7 April 2022 – Students, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Duangporn Pichpol and Dr. Tongkorn Meeyam, went on an excursion to the Chiang Mai Livestock Product Research and Development Center, Department of Livestock Development. They explored the processes of meat and milk product development and gained practical knowledge that can be applied to their future careers in veterinary public health.

8 April 2022 – Students participated in a food safety microbiology laboratory session at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, CMU. They collected environmental samples around the faculty and practiced laboratory techniques for detecting microbial contamination.

8 April 2022 – In parallel, students of the 9th Batch MVPH joined the activity “Thesis Progress Report”, where they presented their data analysis methods and received constructive feedback to strengthen their research.
This combination of field visits, laboratory training, and research-focused activities reflects VPHCAP’s commitment to providing well-rounded learning experiences that connect theory with practice. Students not only enhanced their technical expertise but also developed skills in critical analysis, scientific communication, and collaboration.
