Food security is a major global health concern and has been prioritized under the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Multiple factors—including climate change, poverty, land use, and population growth—affect the food production chain in complex ways. Livestock products, in particular, provide an essential and accessible source of protein for people of all ages. Ensuring the safety and quality of these products is therefore a critical concern throughout the production chain.
In response, the Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety Centre for Asia Pacific (VPHCAP), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Thailand, organized an international online training course on “Food Safety and Security from Animal Origin: Strengthening the Network for Sustainability.” The ultimate goal of the course was to strengthen understanding of the production chain for food of animal origin and the safety control measures needed to ensure food security.
A total of 90 participants from 29 countries registered for the course, with 38 participants qualifying and attending the training. The course was supported by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA). We extend our sincere gratitude to TICA, the invited instructors, and all attendees for making this training a success.
