The Regional Meeting on Culling Practices, Disposal Approaches, and Compensation Policies for Poultry Disease Control in the Lower Mekong was held on 20–21 July 2017 at the Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was part of a project supported by the Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) Health Pillar and was co-organized by the Veterinary Public Health Centre for Asia Pacific (VPHCAP), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, and the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS), College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota.

A total of 15 participants from both government and private sectors attended, representing five Lower Mekong countries: Thailand, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

Objectives of the Meeting

  • To convene stakeholders involved in poultry culling, compensation, and disposal policies.

  • To share relevant information and experiences across the five participating countries.

  • To support the development of strategies aimed at reducing the impact of disease outbreaks in Southeast Asia and mitigating associated economic losses.

The shared data and discussions from this meeting will contribute to the creation of a regional information network, to be compiled into a report and presented at the upcoming Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) regional meeting.
